Mr. Todd St. John, composer

Todd St. John is a composer whose work draws from the rich traditions of Renaissance polyphony and contemporary choral music, incorporating rich tone clusters that add harmonic depth and color to his compositions. A 2019 graduate of Kent State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Composition, St. John studied composition under Frank Wiley and Adam Roberts and voice with Dr. Lara Troyer, developing a compositional voice informed by masters ranging from Palestrina and Charpentier to Eric Whitacre and Morten Lauridsen.

His works have been premiered by Kent State ensembles, including "O Magnum Mysterium,"; performed by the Kent State Chorale, and "Titan," performed by the Kent State Orchestra. Since graduating, St. John has remained deeply engaged in the choral music community, performing with the Kent State Chorale, the Kent State Community Choir under Scott MacPherson, Singers' Companye under Dr. Sam Gordon, the Akron Symphony Chorus under Chris Albanese, the Cuyahoga Valley Community Chorus under Ted Shure and Colleen Miller, and the Master Singers under Dr. Marc Weagraff. Through both his composing and performing, he continues to explore the expressive possibilities of the choral tradition.
